Family Caregivers Month

A big big thank you!

Mon Petit Coeur (MPC) is proud to recognize November as National Family Caregivers Month—a time to celebrate the contributions of caregivers and provide them with the tools that they need. Unpaid care provided by family caregivers makes up 90 percent of long-term care in America. Love is powerful, but caregiving is tough. In fact, it might be one of the most difficult healthcare roles of all. If you are a caregiver for an elderly, a doula, or a disabled relative, know that you are not alone.

The Impact of Caregiving

Giving care to an elderly parent, pregnant woman, or child with special needs may be both rewarding and extremely stressful. Since most care takes place in the home, caregivers often feel isolated, lonely, and unappreciated. The essential responsibilities of managing prescriptions, scheduling doctor visits, making meals, and keeping your loved one active can be incredibly hard for a caregiver to handle.

According to the Caregiver Action Network, one in five caregivers confess they have compromised their physical health in order to care for a loved one. Due to stress, Family caregivers experience a disproportionate number of physical and psychological issues. They are twice as likely to suffer depression and are at increased risk for many other chronic conditions, including:

● Sleep deprivation
● Poor eating habits
● Lack of exercise
● Failure to rest when sick
● Not making medical appointments for themselves

Take Care to Give Care

Self-care is critical to providing care. Caregivers often step into the role assuming it will be temporary, but as a loved one’s condition gets worse — or other family members fail to step in and help — caregiving can become an ongoing job. It is critical to establish strong boundaries, healthy habits, and rules for self-care in order to stay healthy — and sane!

How You Can Help Support National Caregivers Month

The theme for this year’s National Caregivers Month is “#CaregiverAnd” to highlight caregivers’ individuality and help them focus on their self-identity and unique passions that enrich their own lives. Often, a role as a caregiver can overshadow an individual’s own needs, and this campaign seeks to raise awareness about the importance of self-care for all caregivers. In November, we are offering 70% off bunting, pants, and jackets. We are suggesting these as Leaving the Hospital ensemble.

If you are a caregiver, lend your voice to this effort and share your story to help other caregivers feel less alone. Provide advice and tips for ways you manage your own self-care. Share our blog on social media (using the #CaregiverAnd hashtag) and within your community to help everyone understand more about the importance of caregiving and the way they can support.

Do’s and Don’ts of Breast Pumping

Do’s and Don'ts of Breast Pumping

For first-time moms, breastfeeding is a new experience, so stay patient if this process doesn’t
come easily at first. When it comes to breastfeeding, practice makes perfect, so get started as
soon as you can after delivery. Additionally, the sooner you begin nursing, the sooner you can
begin increasing your milk production. Breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth can help new
mothers with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU, give their babies the nutrition
they require. Even if your baby isn't yet ready to return home, it can stimulate your milk supply
to grow.

Hence, Mon petit compelled a lists of Do’s and Don’t on pumping.

Do's
Do: practice safe hygiene and wash your hands before each session
Do: thoroughly clean or sanitize your parts after each session
Do: stay properly hydrated and well-nourished
Do: store your pumped milk properly

Don'ts
Don’t: overpump, as this could lead to oversupply, mastitis, and clogged ducts
Don’t: forget to refrigerate your pump parts after each use (clean thoroughly daily)
Don’t: skip a pumping session, as it could impact your supply
Don’t: ignore feelings of nipple pain or pinching
Additionally, we know breastfeeding can get a little messy at times so we recommend using a bib
to minimize the mess and stress of laundry. Below we have some of our very own MPC
crocheted bibs that are made to order just for you and your little heart.

https://monpetit-coeur.com/product/handmade-crocheted-round-bib/

https://monpetit-coeur.com/product/handmade-crocheted-square/

No matter your reasons for pumping, we hope the tips shared in this blog are helpful. Remember,
there is no wrong way to feed a baby, only a lot of right ones as long as you and your baby are
both safe, healthy, and fed.

Showing Support to Women During Breast Cancer

“Breast cancer is scary and no one understands that like
another woman who has gone through it too.” - Mon Petit

October brings awareness to Breast Cancer and Metastatic Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer is the most
commonly diagnosed form of cancer in the United States with approximately 290,000 cases every year.
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during our lifetimes. Whether it impacts us
personally or through those we love, virtually all of us will be touched by the disease in one way
or another. With this jarring reality in mind, it’s important to have credible resources to ask
questions and receive support — either from experts in the medical field or those who’ve
experienced it.

When a friend or loved one is diagnosed with breast cancer it can be difficult figuring out how to
lend your support, and it can feel like a lot of responsibility when a spouse or other loved one
depends on you as they go through treatment, however, you’re taking an important first step just by
seeking out information on how you can best support them through the hardship. Giving a present to
a loved one who is battling cancer might cheer them up and let them know you care.
This is especially true if you send a gift that strengthens your relationship. Giving a loved one
facing cancer something that makes them smile—whether it's a hilarious movie, book, or favorite
snack—is always a wise way to go about gift-giving. Don't forget to include any dietary limitations
as well. Other acts of kindness could include participating in fundraising events like the breast
cancer walk, dropping by frequently, talking with them and listening, doing their chores, or even
just attending screenings with them. You can help organize meal deliveries, rides, and other tasks
to assist your loved one. You can help bring together the patient’s family, friends, and coworkers
by helping support your loved one through an online social network and planner.

As the matriarch of the household mother’s often find themselves a central pillar keeping the
family together, so it can shock the entire family if or when breast cancer rears its head. It’s
important to support them and lessen their burdens while showing them you’ll still be there. Breast
cancer is not a static event, but rather a journey of physical and emotional changes, there is no
“one size fits all” approach to supporting women with this disease. Knowing how best to support
breast cancer survivors is an ongoing process of changing expectations and needs based on where
they may be in their treatment experience. More research is needed to understand why and how
different forms of social support improve breast cancer survival across different groups of breast
cancer survivors. In the meantime, let’s keep fighting breast cancer through promoting mammograms
and by extending a helping hand to those women in our lives with breast cancer.

As we raise our voices together, we help spread the word about the importance of breast cancer
support. RISE up and join us in reaching even more people throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month
by sharing Mon Petit messaging on your social media channels.

Hello Spring!

 https://monpetit-coeur.com/product/handmade-crocheted-jacket/
Jasmine Jacket

The spring is a unique time because it brings warmer weather, perfect for fostering new life.  Yes it is the season that the trees are blooming with cherry blossoms.  Peek into gardens to see  them flourishing with all kinds of beautiful plant life. Celebrate new life, as March celebrates women who bring life to our future generations.  April allows us moments of reflections as we celebrate special moments with family and friends. It’s also a great time to get out and take walks with your newborn babies after COVID pregnancies. Getting outside in the warming weather surrounded by nature can help to calm any seasonal depression or baby blues that you may experience during this trans formative time. https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/visitgclid=EAIaIQobChMItPKMkenY7wIVAb_ICh3Uogz1EAAYAyAAEgLXF_D_BwE

Are you expecting a little bundle of joy during the spring?  Now is a perfect time to consider a home birth. A home birth is great for mothers, it’s more intimate and an empowered experience giving birth at home.  As an expectant mom, I wanted a home birth years ago and still wish I had pursued it. Meeting mothers during COVID, few are hesitant to enter a hospital unless they are ill. As well, due to COVID, the hospital would limit the amount of loved ones  who can be there to witness the birth of the child.

If you would like to take it a step further, how about a lotus birth?  This type of birth allows the umbilical cord to detach naturally instead of cutting it immediately after birth. This can help the nutrients continue to flow to the baby even after birth and provides health benefits.  Your baby’s first bath is also an important bonding time for mother and baby. After a home birth, a mother can bathe the baby herself one to two days after birth instead of the nurse at the hospital bathing the baby. Be gentle with your baby and only use soaps that have no harsh chemicals and perfumes in them. Check out our bunting bag that can be used as a great lotus birth bag. https://monpetit-coeur.com/product/handmade-crocheted-bunting/

Choosing out your baby’s first outfit is an important time. Why not shop for your baby’s first outfit as a Custom Gift Set at Mon Petit Coeur? Create a custom gift set from all eight apparel and accessories in our Signature Collection.  Choose from our Handmade Crochet Jacket,  Handmade Crochet Bunting, our Handmade Crochet Pants, Handmade Crochet Hat, Handmade Crochet Headband, and our Crochet Booties. Purchase them in spring colors, such as white, Sunshine or select a color and we can create for you.  Big brother and sister can hold them and stay protected in our Hart Mask or Anker Mask and wear the MPC Pocket Tee to go with the Anker Mask.

We offer expectant moms our Baby Registry so they can get ready with a handmade ensemble for the first baby photo or that first trip home from the hospital.  Handmade with love in pure cotton, shop for apparel, accessories as well as other gifts for their growing family.

Now that the weather is getting colder and the leaves are falling, it is a great opportunity to spend time with
your loved ones. Taking family photos,  walks to see fall foliage, and jumping in leaves is just the beginning of the long list of fall activities you can partake in.

Since the weather is cold now, you can explore the medicinal properties of leaves by drinking tea. Tea is not only tasty, but it can also help you warm up, ward off colds and the flu, and help you go to sleep.  Did you know that raspberry tea leaves can help support pregnancy and ease pain during childbirth?

As we celebrate our anniversary, we have lots of new Fall collections. Our Treasured Chest
Collection will join the other collections on our site this Fall. This collection celebrates milestones, such as baby dedications, a rite of passage not only for new babies but their families as well.  The collection has limited designer creations as well as one-of-a-kind creations in yarn, thread, and fabric, for both boys & girls.  Tis the season for gifting,
